How do I convert MP3 to WAV?

Why convert MP3 to WAV?
When the gear or software you are using does not take MP3. Hardware samplers like the Elektron Digitakt and Octatrack only load WAV or AIFF, and so do some older DAW samplers. Radio stations and music libraries often ask for WAV delivery too; converting meets the format, but the WAV still carries the MP3's quality, so send your original WAV if you have one.
Does converting MP3 to WAV improve quality?
No. The detail MP3 removed during encoding is gone for good. You get an uncompressed copy of the MP3 exactly as it sounds, in a format every DAW and sampler accepts, at roughly ten times the file size. Our guide to

Should I choose 16-bit or 24-bit WAV?

Should I choose 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz?
Match the project you are importing into: 44.1 kHz for music, 48 kHz for video. Most MP3s are 44.1 kHz, so picking 48 kHz resamples the audio.
Can I convert M4A, FLAC, and AIFF to WAV?
Yes. Any format your browser can decode works as input: M4A recordings from an iPhone, FLAC from a lossless library, and AIFF from Logic Pro or sample packs all convert to standard PCM WAV. You can mix formats in one batch.
